ARLINGTON – With Kayla Thornton leading the way, the Dallas Wings surged past the Phoenix Mercury 69-54 Thursday night at College Park Center for their second win in five days.
Thornton scored a game-high 18 points with 11 rebounds and was at her best in the second half when the Mercury threatened to rally.
“I was just trying to do whatever I could for my teammates and my team, whether it be just hustle plays and the little things,” said Thornton after her first double-double of the season. “Just trying be everywhere and give as much energy as I can to them.”
Said Wings coach Brian Agler: “Kayla is one of the best two-way players in the league. She hasn’t gotten the notoriety, but she is very important with her leadership and the way she can play on both ends.”
